Remote work has become a common part of many employees' work lives. But do you know your rights when you want to work from home? Let's look at the key information.
Who Can Request Remote Work?
In 2025, all employees have the legal right to request remote work. However, there are three groups of employees with special status:
- Pregnant employees 🤰
- Parents caring for a child under 9 years old 👨👩👧
- Employees providing long-term care for a dependent person 👨🦽
These groups are entitled to a written justification if their request is denied.
How to Submit a Request
1. The request must be submitted in writing
2. It should include:
- Your personal details
- Reason for the request (if you belong to one of the above groups)
- Proposed scope of remote work
- Place of work
What Can the Employer Do?
The employer has the right to assess the request and:
- Approve it in full
- Propose a compromise solution
- Deny it with a written justification (for protected groups)
The employer must respond to the request within 4 weeks, and in justified cases, this period can be extended to 8 weeks.
